Superintendent News - January

With the new calendar year upon us, I hope everyone had an enjoyable and restful Holiday Season.  As much as I know that the students, and yes even the teachers, were looking forward to the Holiday break I hope that the break revitalized everyone for the beginning of the second semester.  

As we continue to enjoy a somewhat mild winter we still cannot ignore the possibility of inclement weather and the possibility of closing schools or delaying the start of school.  Parents and students will be informed of school closings/delayed starts by use of our district wide calling system.  In addition, school closings/delays will be announced on the local radio and television stations and posted on the district website to ensure that all students/families are aware of school closures affected by the weather.   The decision to close school or delay the start of school will be made between 5:30 and 6:00 am.

As we look ahead, we will be holding a K-12 Open House on February 16.  Traditionally this open house has been held at the beginning of the year, but as we looked at the calendar, we wanted to offer the parents the opportunity to see all the wonderful things that there children are doing in the second half of the year.  Moving the “Open House” to February allows this opportunity. Your feedback on this change will be greatly appreciated.

The financial difficulty that the State of Illinois is going through continues with no solutions in sight.  Presently the State of Illinois is behind in payments to our school amounting to $168,116.  There is no indication or confidence that we will be receiving any of these dollars.  Our budget remains balanced despite the shortfalls from the State.
